The emergence of minimally invasive surgical approach for liver resection has been fostered by the introduction of digital technology including fiberoptic imaging and development of laparoscopic hemostatic tools such as clips, linear staplers, and ultrasonic/bipolar energy devices. The robotic surgical platform is gradually being applied worldwide by liver surgeons even in developing countries with comparable outcomes to those of open liver surgery, while gaining the benefits of the minimally invasive approach.
